The “Gilmore Girls” star and Tony Award winner Elizabeth Franz dies at the age of 84.

Judyann Elder Franz died on November 4 at her home in Woodbury, Connecticut, her husband Christopher Pelham told The New York Times. He shared that cancer and a severe drug reaction caused her passing.

A revered stage actress, Franz appeared in numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway productions including Buried Child, Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All for You, Lost in Yonkers, and A View from the Bridge. She won the 1999 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress for her powerful performance as Linda Loman in the 50th-anniversary revival of Death of a Salesman, a portrayal Arthur Miller himself praised for its emotional depth. She later reprised the role in Showtime’s 2000 TV adaptation, earning an Emmy nomination.

Franz also received Tony nominations for Brighton Beach Memoirs (1983) and Morning’s at Seven (2002). Her television work included roles on Grey’s Anatomy, Judging Amy, Homeland, Law & Order, Cold Case, and a brief appearance as Mia Bass on Gilmore Girls before the role was recast. Her film credits featured School Ties, Sabrina, Twisted, A Fish in the Bathtub, and Christmas with the Kranks. She was previously married to actor Edward Binns until his death in 1990 and is survived by Pelham and her brother Joe.
