CBS may have ended Blue Bloods in December 2024 after 14 seasons, but fans are keeping the Reagan family’s legacy alive – and the franchise’s future looks brighter than ever.

The original series has seen a major surge on Paramount+, and its new spin-off Boston Blue is already off to a record-breaking start. Almost as if the show should never have been canceled.

When CBS announced the final season in early 2024, viewers and cast members were vocal about their disappointment. Tom Selleck, who played Commissioner Frank Reagan, thanked fans, saying it had been an honor to work on a show that celebrated both law enforcement and family. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach explained the decision as part of a necessary “schedule refresh.”

But the Blue Bloods universe didn’t stay quiet for long. Boston Blue, the first official spin-off, premiered last week on CBS before heading to Paramount+, where it quickly became one of the platform’s most-streamed October shows and scored a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes based on early critic reviews.

What’s Boston Blue About?

The pilot, “Faith and Family,” follows former NYPD detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) as he relocates to Boston and teams up with Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), whose law-enforcement family has its own complex legacy – and even a past link to the Reagans.

The cast also includes Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, Mika Amonsen, Gloria Reuben, Ernie Hudson, and Bridget Moynahan, with Jerry Bruckheimer executive producing alongside Wahlberg. Directors for Season 1 include Anthony Hemingway, Jackeline Tejada, and Randy Zisk.
