Jacqueline Falk, the adopted daughter of legendary Columbo star Peter Falk, passed away on Monday April 27, 2026, at her home in Los Angeles at the age of 60 — and the story behind her life, behind the quiet and largely private existence she chose to live in the shadow of one of television’s most recognizable faces, is one that the people who loved her and the fans who loved her father deserve to know in its fullness and its heartbreak.
Jacqueline grew up as one of two daughters adopted by Peter Falk and his first wife Alyce Mayo, who married in 1960 and divorced in 1976 and what the public chapter of her life does not convey is the depth of the private pain she carried, particularly in the years surrounding her father’s decline and death. When Peter Falk was hospitalized in the final days of his life, his second wife did not notify his daughters. When he died on June 23, 2011, at age 83, from pneumonia and the complications of Alzheimer’s disease, his daughters were not notified. Jacqueline and Catherine learned that their father had died from media reports and their attorney. A daughter who never got to say goodbye, who learned her father was gone the way strangers did — from a headline — and who carried that wound through the fifteen years that followed in the only way a person can carry something that was never given the chance to heal properly.
