At 95, William Shatner Knows His Time Is Precious — What He Says He Wants Now May Surprise Fans

Spread the love

At 95, William Shatner has lived the kind of life most people could only imagine.

He became Captain James T. Kirk, helped turn Star Trek into a cultural phenomenon, remained a television fixture for generations and even traveled into space for real.

But when Shatner talks about what he wants from the time he has left, his answer isn’t another enormous adventure.

It’s something much simpler.

The legendary actor has been speaking candidly about aging and mortality, particularly after facing stage-four malignant melanoma that had spread to his lungs and brain.

Shatner underwent treatment and has since said that both he and his daughter Melanie—who battled stage-four breast cancer—are now cancer-free.

Experiences like those have inevitably changed the way he looks at time.

Yet Shatner says he doesn’t have a conventional bucket list filled with places he desperately needs to visit or accomplishments he still needs to chase.

What he wants is more of the life he already has.

He has talked about enjoying the simple routine of going to bed, being with his dogs and riding his horses.

He’s also still working.

There are books, television projects and a podcast with his daughter. He’s preparing appearances celebrating Star Trek’s 60th anniversary and even has an unlikely new musical adventure involving heavy metal.

It’s remarkable considering that Star Trek first appeared on American television in 1966.

Sixty years later, Captain Kirk is still looking toward whatever comes next.

But perhaps the most revealing thing about Shatner today isn’t another project.

It’s his appreciation for ordinary moments.

After everything—the fame, Hollywood, Star Trek, horses and even traveling beyond Earth—Shatner’s focus appears to have returned to something incredibly basic:

being here.

He has said plainly that dying is the last thing he wants to do.

And at 95, rather than waiting quietly for the final curtain, William Shatner seems determined to keep filling whatever time remains with the people, animals and work he loves.

As he has put it elsewhere while reflecting on life after cancer:

There’s no time but now.
