Millions still remember Michael Landon as Charles Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie, but away from television, he was also the father of a large blended family.

Across three marriages, Landon was the father of nine children, including children he adopted.

When Landon died from pancreatic cancer in 1991 at only 54, his youngest children were still growing up. But his story didn’t end there.

Several eventually followed him into Hollywood.

Michael Landon Jr. became a successful director, writer and producer. Christopher Landon built his own career as a filmmaker, becoming known for movies including Happy Death Day and Freaky.

His daughter Jennifer Landon became an actress, winning three consecutive Daytime Emmy Awards for As the World Turns and later reaching a new generation of viewers as Teeter on Yellowstone.

Others chose lives largely outside the Hollywood spotlight.

More than three decades after Michael Landon’s death, his children are now grown, with careers and families of their own.

Fans may still picture him driving the wagon across the prairie as Charles Ingalls.

But perhaps the most personal legacy Michael Landon left behind wasn’t on television at all.

It was the family that continued long after he was gone.
