His breakout role came in 1979 when he starred as George Berger in the film adaptation of the musical Hair. In addition to his film work, Williams became a familiar face on television. His role as Dr. Andy Brown in the popular TV drama Everwood endeared him to a new generation of fans. The show ran from 2002 to 2006, and Williams’ performance as a widowed neurosurgeon who moves his family to a small town in Colorado remains one of his most beloved roles.
