Sophia Loren once shared the screen with legends including Clark Gable, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando and Marcello Mastroianni. More than seven decades after becoming an international star, Loren remains one of the last great living icons associated with Hollywood’s golden era.

Today, however, her life looks very different from the glamorous Hollywood world fans remember. Loren spends much of her time quietly at her home in Geneva, Switzerland, staying close to her two sons and four grandchildren. Family became so important to her that she deliberately slowed her movie career years ago so she could watch her children grow up.

After suffering a serious fall in 2023 that required surgery, Loren recovered, and recent reports suggesting she had been hospitalized caused concern among fans. But in July 2026, her niece publicly denied those rumors, saying the 91-year-old actress was at home, doing well and “full of life.”

Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Loren still doesn’t think of herself as finished. Around her 90th birthday, she said she didn’t feel 90 and remained excited about the next chapter of her life. After surviving an extraordinary era of cinema and watching so many of her contemporaries disappear, Sophia Loren is still looking forward rather than backward.
