For 14 seasons, Tom Selleck became the face of Blue Bloods as NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan. But when the show’s future was threatened, Selleck and his fellow cast members were willing to make a major sacrifice.
Selleck recently revealed that the cast accepted a 25% pay cut in hopes of keeping the beloved CBS drama on television. According to Selleck, the actors were willing to return, and the show was still performing strongly in the ratings.
But it wasn’t enough. Blue Bloods ended in December 2024 after nearly 300 episodes, a decision Selleck says he still finds “very frustrating.”
And at 81, Selleck isn’t simply disappearing into retirement. He has previously made clear that he still wants to work, although he has questioned whether returning as Frank Reagan on Boston Blue is the right move.
After spending more than a decade around the Reagan family dinner table, it’s easy to understand why Selleck wasn’t ready to say goodbye.
