Stevie Nicks Remembers Dolly Parton — What Happened During Their Private Week Together in Nashville Stayed With Her

Stevie Nicks has spent more than five decades surrounded by music legends. But when she looked back on the week she spent with Dolly Parton in Nashville, it was clear that this particular experience never left her.

The two icons came together in 2023 while Dolly was creating her ambitious rock album, Rockstar. Stevie traveled to Nashville to record “What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done for You,” a song Stevie had written years earlier.

What followed became much more than an ordinary recording session.

Stevie later described those days with Dolly as the “best week ever,” saying that spending time with her felt like attending a master class.

Rather than arriving as one superstar meeting another, Stevie said she tried to become a student. She listened closely, watched Dolly work and tried to absorb as much as possible during their short time together.

Dolly had decided that she could make a rock album — and Stevie got a front-row seat as she did exactly that.

For Stevie, one of the things that stood out was Dolly’s ability to teach without making it feel like a lesson. She remembered Dolly as generous with what she knew and said she simply tried to listen.

Their time together also produced something fans can still hear today. In the studio, the pair sang Stevie’s song together, blending two unmistakable voices from different corners of American music.

Dolly herself later remembered having fun with Stevie in the studio, singing and simply “playing around” as they worked on the track.

Now, looking back on those Nashville days, Stevie’s memories carry much more emotional weight.

Her tribute wasn’t centered on fame, awards or record sales. Instead, she remembered what Dolly taught her during that extraordinary week — and the woman she saw behind the rhinestones.

Two legends entered a Nashville studio to make a song.

Stevie Nicks walked away with a memory she would carry long after the music stopped.
