Billy Joel has joined the many music legends remembering Dolly Parton, but his tribute felt especially personal.

The “Piano Man” shared a heartfelt message about Dolly and included throwback photos from a family trip to Dollywood — giving fans a glimpse at how much Dolly’s influence reached beyond fellow musicians.

Joel visited Dollywood in 2025 with his wife, Alexis Roderick, and their daughters, Della Rose and Remy Anne. In his tribute, he explained that his children knew Dolly’s music and looked up to her.

For Billy, that was proof of something remarkable: Dolly didn’t belong to just one generation.

Her music had followed parents, children and grandchildren.

Joel described Dolly as an artist who had become bigger than any individual song. He also pointed to something beyond her music — the charitable work and causes she supported throughout her life.

That connection between their families and Dolly’s legacy made the photographs from Dollywood feel even more meaningful.

There was also a musical connection between the two legends.

Dolly recorded Billy Joel’s “Travelin’ Prayer” for her 1999 bluegrass album The Grass Is Blue, and years later she recorded “The Entertainer” for her 2023 album Rockstar.

Joel clearly hadn’t forgotten it.

But his message wasn’t simply one famous musician remembering another.

It was a father remembering a woman whose influence had reached his own children.

He ended his tribute on behalf of the Joel family, saying that while Dolly would be deeply missed, people would continue benefiting from a life she dedicated to making the world better.

For fans, the family photographs added another layer to those words.

Behind two enormous music careers was something much simpler — one family appreciating an artist whose songs and generosity had somehow found their way into another generation.
