Watching her father live with dementia has forced Rumer Willis to confront a question many people might rather avoid.

What could her own future hold?

Bruce Willis’ eldest daughter recently revealed that she decided to undergo genetic and health testing to better understand her own risks.

For Rumer, getting those answers wasn’t easy.

“It’s terrifying to get answers sometimes,” she admitted.

Bruce’s family announced in 2023 that the beloved Die Hard star had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, following an earlier diagnosis of aphasia.

Rumer has been open about how difficult the changes have been.

She recently acknowledged that she misses a different version of her father, while trying to remain present and appreciate the relationship they can still share today.

Now a mother herself, Rumer has begun looking more closely at her own long-term health.

She underwent testing that included an APOE genetic test related to Alzheimer’s disease risk, while also examining other aspects of her health.

It meant voluntarily seeking information that could potentially be frightening.

But Rumer explained why she wanted to know.

“When you have information, it’s power.”

For her, the decision isn’t simply about fear of what might happen someday.

It’s about understanding what she can do today — particularly now that she has a young daughter of her own.

And behind that decision is the painful reality of watching someone she loves change.

Bruce Willis was once one of Hollywood’s most recognizable action stars.

To Rumer, however, he’s simply Dad.

And confronting questions about her own future while watching what her father is experiencing makes this decision far more personal than an ordinary medical test.
