Actress Phyllida Law, the mother of Oscar winner Emma Thompson and actress Sophie Thompson, has died at the age of 94.
Law’s manager confirmed that she died peacefully at home on July 27, surrounded by her family. News of her death was announced on August 18.
But Phyllida was much more than the mother of a famous daughter.
Her acting career stretched across more than six decades, with appearances in films including Much Ado About Nothing, Emma, The Winter Guest and Nanny McPhee, as well as numerous British television productions.
One of the most touching parts of her career was how often it crossed paths with her daughters. Phyllida and Emma appeared together several times, including playing mother and daughter in The Winter Guest.
Acting truly ran through the family. Phyllida was married to actor Eric Thompson until his death in 1982, while both daughters went on to build successful acting careers of their own.
Her granddaughter Gaia Wise marked the loss with a simple emotional tribute: “Rest well my queen.”
At 94, Phyllida Law leaves behind not only decades of performances, but a remarkable acting family whose work has entertained audiences for generations.
