For longtime NCIS fans who have missed seeing Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, there’s finally a major reason to get excited.
Harmon is taking a much bigger role in Season 3 of NCIS: Origins. Instead of simply narrating the prequel, he will appear on screen as the older Gibbs in every episode, as part of a season-long present-day mystery connected to Gibbs’ past at Camp Pendleton.
It marks Harmon’s most substantial return as Gibbs since he stepped away from the original NCIS as a series regular in 2021. Austin Stowell will continue playing young Gibbs, meaning fans will get to follow two different eras of Gibbs’ story at the same time.
NCIS: Origins Season 3 premieres October 6, 2026 — and for fans who have been waiting to see more of the original Gibbs, the wait is getting much shorter.
