For generations of movie fans, Tim Curry will always be remembered as the unforgettable Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And in a fitting final chapter to his public life, Curry’s last known public appearance brought him back to the people and the film that helped make him a legend.
In November 2025, Curry appeared as part of The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s 50th-anniversary celebrations, reuniting with original co-stars Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn and Nell Campbell. Entertainment Weekly reports that his final public appearance came during the anniversary tour in New York, only months before his death at age 80.
It was an especially emotional sight for longtime fans. After suffering a major stroke in 2012, Curry used a wheelchair and made public appearances far less frequently. Yet his famous sense of humor remained very much intact. During the 2025 anniversary celebrations, he joked with audiences while looking back on the strange little movie that became a cultural phenomenon.
Rocky Horror had changed everything for Curry. His fearless performance as Frank-N-Furter turned him into an international star and opened the door to an extraordinary career that later included Clue, Annie, Home Alone 2, Muppet Treasure Island and his terrifying performance as Pennywise in It.
But there was something beautifully appropriate about seeing him return to Rocky Horror near the end.
There he was, surrounded by familiar faces from a movie they had made half a century earlier. The costumes and wild nights were long behind them, but the affection between the cast—and from the fans who had followed them for decades—was still unmistakable.
At the time, it was a celebration.
Looking back now, it feels much more like a farewell.
Tim Curry died at 80 in August 2026, leaving behind nearly six decades of unforgettable performances. His final public chapter didn’t need a dramatic Hollywood ending. It simply brought him back to where so many fans first fell in love with him.
And somehow, that feels exactly right.
