Timothy McGee’s Exit From NCIS Confirmed – and Fans Didn’t Even Notice

Spread the love

NCIS Season 23, Episode 6 (“Page-Turner”) centres on Timothy McGee, who is kidnapped while promoting his latest novel under the pen name Thom E. Gemcity. A deeper subject emerges from what starts out as a standard kidnapping twist: McGee’s development and his possible post-NCIS future.

McGee’s Kidnapping Highlights His Value

McGee is abducted by a mother who is desperate to save her missing son, not by his superfan as was first believed. McGee negotiates with his kidnapper while he is being kept captive, breaks into evidence, solves the case, and even holds the criminal until the team gets there. The episode demonstrates his progress: he has 23 years of field experience, MIT training, and the ability to perform almost all tasks independently.

Despite his abilities, McGee’s career with NCIS is limited. He has limited opportunities for advancement after failing to secure the position of Deputy Director in Season 22.

There’s a New Career Awaiting

McGee’s writing career is the episode’s main topic. A superfan on a book tour asks him the question he avoids: Has he considered leaving NCIS to focus on writing full-time? If McGee decides to quit police enforcement, he already has a clear route ahead of him thanks to his increasing fan base and passion, which offers safer, more predictable hours—the exact life he and Delilah desire.

Indications of Sean Murray’s Possible Exit

Sean Murray has been with the series for 23 years, but his exit has not been formally announced. The program seems to be setting the stage, though, as McGee is restless, unfulfilled, and has another profession in the works.

Meanwhile, NCIS has been subtly revealing a possible replacement. The gifted “tech troll” from the basement, Curtis Hubley, has shown himself to be capable and eager. In the event that McGee moves on, his combination of technical proficiency and ambition makes him an ideal substitute.

Where McGee Is Left After This

McGee would be able to focus on his family and write more Thom E. Gemcity novels if he did take a break. Even while the actor’s exit hasn’t been confirmed, Season 23 subtly implies that McGee’s future may lie outside of NCIS.
