Dolly Parton belonged to the world — but to Rebecca Seaver, she was simply Aunt Dolly.
Following the country legend’s death at 80, Dolly’s niece shared an intensely personal tribute, saying the grief her family is experiencing feels “insurmountable.”
Rebecca remembered Dolly as far more than the glamorous superstar millions saw on television. Behind the rhinestones, she was her best friend, trusted confidante, godmother and favorite adventurer.
She also described Dolly as a light who inspired the people around her to become better versions of themselves.
Rebecca said she takes comfort believing Dolly is now reunited with her beloved husband, Carl Dean, and her mother, Avie Lee.
Despite the family’s heartbreak, Rebecca said she intends to continue telling Dolly’s story and carrying her dreams forward.
For millions of fans, Dolly Parton was an American icon.
But Rebecca’s farewell offers something much more personal — a glimpse of the woman her family loved when the stage lights were turned off.
