Dolly Parton may be gone, but one of the causes closest to her heart isn’t going anywhere.

The Dollywood Foundation has announced that it will continue carrying forward Dolly’s lifelong mission of helping children, families and communities.

At the center of that legacy is Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the childhood literacy program she created in 1995 after being inspired by her father, who could not read or write.

What started in Dolly’s Tennessee hometown eventually grew into a worldwide program that has delivered hundreds of millions of free books to children.

Foundation president Jeff Conyers said Dolly’s belief in giving back remains woven into everything the organization does — and that her mission will continue “for generations to come.”

The Foundation says it prepared carefully for a future without its beloved founder, ensuring that the work Dolly cared so deeply about could continue.

For millions of fans, that’s perhaps one of the most fitting ways to remember her.

The music will live on — and so will Dolly’s mission of helping children dream.
